Decorating Your Home for the Holidays

With the Philippines being known for having the world’s longest Christmas season, it goes without saying that Pinoys love to go all out for the holidays.

Apart from exchanging presents and Noche Buena, another thing that every household gets excited for is decorating their homes for the holidays. As soon as the “-ber” months begin, people already start pulling out the decorations from their boxes. To most, it doesn’t feel like Christmas if you don’t have decorations up.

To add holiday cheer to your space, here are some fun decorating tips:

1. Add personal touches.

Make your home decor your own and unique to your family. For example, take your favorite family photos and tie them to your Christmas tree with colourful bows in place of the usual Christmas balls.

2. Make your own decor.

Look up tutorials online on how to make your own Christmas decor. You can buy beads, strings, and other materials in bulk, which is likely to be cheaper than store-bought decor. Plus, it’s a great bonding activity for the family!

3. Decorate with kiddie art.

Another way to make your home decor more personalized is to have your kids display their Christmas-themed artwork. Provide them with materials like paint, paper, glue, glitter and cardboard and let the little Picassos do their stuff! Not only will they enjoy making art, but they’re sure to feel proud to have their work displayed around your home.

4. Shop smart.

For things you really need to buy, make sure that the things you buy can be used 3 to 5 Christmases from now. Buy them early on because they tend to get more expensive during the holiday season itself.

5. Repurpose your glassware.

Who says your fancy glasses and bowls are only for food and drink? For example, take your wineglasses and fill them with holiday candy or glass marbles and use them as table centrepieces.
