6 Steps to an Organized Laundry Area

The rest of your house organized, from your entryway to your bedroom. Why shouldn’t your laundry area be organized as well?

Let’s face it. Doing the laundry is not the most exciting chore but it’s something that you can’t avoid. But usually, the unnecessary clutter and disorganized piles are the reasons why doing the laundry can be so stressful. So if you eliminate both, you can have an efficient laundry room where you can actually enjoy doing your laundry.

Here are some tips on how to organize your laundry area and make it work for you:

1. Set up different work areas.

Think of the tasks that need to be done and create separate work areas for each activity. For example, you would need to set up an area for sorting, ironing, and storing your laundry supplies.

2. Get rid of unnecessary clutter.

Before you start organizing your things, go through your supplies and get rid of things that are old or unused. These things can include broken hangers, old bottles, or even misplaced socks. Items that don’t belong in your laundry room can be placed in a separate box temporarily so you can just put them back in their proper places later.

3. Organize your supplies.

Use baskets or containers to store your bleach, detergent, and other products. Keep these supplies in cabinets to keep them away from children, and also to hide the clutter.

4. Sort your clothes properly.

You can save time and trouble by putting lightweight hampers for dirty clothes in each bedroom. In the laundry room, keep a laundry sorter where you can divide dirty laundry into the basic groups—whites, colors/darks, and delicate items.

5. Decorate the room.

A laundry room can be both functional and pleasing to the eye. Once you have everything organized, you can start decorating it. You can paint the room in a cheerful color, and even add decorations like rugs, potted plants or pictures.

6. Involve your family.

You can assign each member his or her own laundry basket. Once clothes dry, you can place them in the proper basket. This will teach your family members to be responsible for keeping their clothes.
