Pamper Your Guests with a Comfortable Guest Room

Posted on March 5, 2015

Having friends and family come to visit from out of town can be a treat, but being a gracious host can be stressful if you’re not prepared for your house guests. Lucky for you, we’ve got eight fast and easy ways that can transform your house from “a place to stay” to “a home away from home.”

1. Put out a welcome basket

Greet your guests with a basket of treats! Nothing says “welcome” like a simple surprise of fresh fruits, cookies, chips, and sweets all waiting for them to enjoy. Include a note with your WiFi password and other instructions they may need to know.

2. Make the bed

You don’t have to spend a fortune on the linens to make your guests feel special, but you have to be sure that it is soft, layered and clean. If you have a pre-made bed that hasn’t been used in months, remove the old sheets and be sure to make the bed with freshly laundered bedding. A good night’s sleep is the best gift you can give anyone!

3. Clear all the clutter

A spare bedroom is often the catch-all for your miscellaneous belongings so make sure that the room is squeaky clean before your guests arrive. Start with the night tables and sweep the tops for all the unnecessary knickknacks.

4. Provide a place to sit and a place to store

If your guests are staying for more than a couple of days, they will probably want to take their clothes out of their suitcases. Making sure that there iss an empty drawer or an extra set of hangers in your guest room closet makes all the difference.

5. Nobody wants a parched guest!

It would be a nice gesture to leave a pitcher of iced water on their nightstand in the evening. You can save your guests from having to make their way in the dark to a strange kitchen in the middle of the night.

6. Add a cozy throw

Make sure the room is as functional as it is beautiful. Include a few extra decorative throw pillows at the foot of the bed along with a comfortable blanket, this will help avoid those awkward situations and can inject a luxurious vibe into a space.

7. Provide simple luxuries

Do your guests a favor and leave them some basic toiletries such as fresh towels, disposable toothbrushes, a travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and lotion, Q-tips and cotton balls and a hair dryer. For those forgetful folks out there, you may want to add a universal charger, over-the-counter medications, and comfy slippers.

8. Go the extra mile

If your guest room hasn’t been used in a while and there are noticeable damages or chippings on the wall, it’s probably time for a fresh coat of paint. You want your space to be a calming retreat so do this if you have the time and resources. Choose a shade from a neutral color palette and finish up the overall look of your room by updating your framed photos and picking up some inexpensive buds for display.
