Posted on July 20, 2016

Your house may fall victim to bad odors due to poor household maintenance. You wouldn’t want your house smelling terrible to yourself and your visitors, right? To prevent this from happening, home improvement will do you good. Whether your house is already a victim to smelling bad or just wants to prevent it from happening, these home improvement tips can help alleviate the foul smell that can be circling around your household.

Here are ways on how to make your home smell fantastic with home improvement!

  1. Use DIY Beeswax Candles.
Beeswax Candles don’t only smell extremely good, but they are also very fun to make. Beeswax is a cleaning agent because when burned, it neutralizes bad ions like air toxins. You can prepare Beeswax candles by boiling the candle in a pot. Make sure to have candle jars ready for pouring. You can add extra therapeutic ingredients like herbs in the jar for more scent variety.

  1. Make your stove simmer.
With a saucepan, prepare citrus and herbs like orange peels, cinnamon sticks, and dried apple slices, then simmer down the ingredients for 20-30 minutes. These ingredients effectively permeate a healthy aroma because the steam from the saucepan will generate a very fresh scent that will circle throughout the house. Stove simmers are one of the cheapest and quickest ways to help alleviate bad house odor.

  1. Have proper ventilation.
Bad air circulation can clog your home, producing foul odors. Air your place out and make sure that your home is getting enough sunlight. Open your windows and let the wind breeze through your home.

  1. Double check your garbage disposal.
A lingering odor might come from your garbage disposal. Make sure to place it at a location where the scent will go nowhere near your home like your backyard. Try putting coffee grounds in the disposal as they absorb strong odors. Also, make sure to wrap your garbage disposal well to help alleviate the foul scent.

  1. Eliminate lingering kitchen aroma with baking powder and lemon peel.
The strange scent that seems to permeate the house can come from all the cooking that in the kitchen. If you don’t like your home smelling like grilled barbecue or fried fish, prepare a boiling pot and pour it with 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking powder and a lemon peel. The steam from the pot will help absorb the post-cooking aroma.
